Second round of presidential race postponed
The second round of Guinea’s election will be postponed, delaying the run-off between former prime minister Cellou Dalein Diallo and opponent Alpha Conde. The announcement comes as Guinea’s supreme court considers several complaints about the running of the first round of the presidential election on 27 June.

“We are waiting to see, to approach the supreme court to fix a new date,” said Pathe Dieng, director of operations at the National Independent Electoral Commission.
Thousands of supporters of Sidya Toure rallied in the country on Monday after the former prime minister came third and missed inclusion in the run-off vote.
It is expected that the supreme court will make a ruling next week. Because 14 days of campaigning are necessary before the vote and because elections are normally held on Sunday, this would suggest that the second round would not take place before 1 August.
