Soldiers fired a 21-gun salute at the funeral of the former Nigerian secessionist leader Odumegwu Ojukwu yesterday to honour the man who fought for the independence of Biafra in the1960s. Ojukwu's coffin was draped in the national colours of white and green at the funeral service in the city of Enugu, attended by thousands of people. Ojukwu died in November in Britain at the age of 78. But his body was only flown back to Nigeria yesterday. RFI spoke to political scientist Kathryn Nwajiaku-Dahou about how Ojukwu was remembered.
