Senegal race to aid female education

Issued on:

Traditional harmful practices such as early and forced marriages are two of the major causes of girls dropping out of school at an early age in the region of Tambacounda in Senegal. It is against this backdrop that the United States Peace Corps volunteers in the region in collaboration with SCOFI (Scolarisation des Filles), a local ,rights organization for young girls and women, organised a half-marathon. The run aimed to raise awareness and funds to help underprivileged girls in secondary and high schools in the region.
