Attempts to reduce political tension before Kenya's elections

Issued on:

Kenyans have a few months left before parliamentary and national elections that will be the first ones since the ill-fated 2007 polls that led to unprecedented post-election violence. These upcoming elections have been further complicated by the fact that two leading presidential aspirants are facing charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court. Consequently, the political tension in the country remains high. To pre-empt a repetition of widespread violence, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission has initiated a peace movement that is spreading across the country.
