Impact of Unesco's funding crisis

Issued on:

The Director General of the UN cultural body, Unesco, says the organisation is facing its worst ever financial crisis. The comment came during a press conference at the group's headquarters here in Paris last week. The crisis blew up in November last year after the majority of Unesco's member states voted in favour of giving membership to Palestine. The United States responded by cutting off funding as a show of solidaritary with Israel. The US contributes 60 million euros per year to Unesco, or 22 percent of its annual budget. RFI spoke to Unesco's Director General, Irina Bokova about how the funding crisis is affecting their programmes around the world.
