Look at that beautiful link to the Sound Kitchen Listeners Cookbook! It actually happened! I’m very happy about it, and I hope you enjoy looking at it – and trying out some recipes. Please feel free to send in any comments you have, and we would love it if you’d send in photos – of you, and your completed dish. Don’t hesitate to use the “zoom” tool on countries where there are a lot of forks; that will separate them so you can read the titles easier. Click on the title, and the recipe will appear.

Also, if you are interested in corresponding with other Sound Kitchen listeners, let me know. I’ll figure out a way to get you together.

Today’s question was read on 24 November, and was about French politics, and France’s main conservative party, the Union for a Popular Movement, or the UMP. The UMP is former French president Nicolas Sarkozy’s party.

When I asked you the question, the UMP had just voted for their next president. Holding the presidency of the party is seen as a launching pad for the presidential nomination, although there is no guarantee that the party leader will be the party’s candidate for president of the French republic.

The battle for the leadership of the UMP party was bitter. When the votes were counted, Jean-François Copé was declared the winner by a very narrow margin – only 50.03 per cent. His rival made claims of fraud, and formed a break-away party (with the unfortunate acronym “RUMP”): it was a big mess, and quite damaging to the party’s image. Anyway, the row continued until just a couple of weeks ago, when both men agreed to hold a new vote by October of next year for the leadership of the party. Until then, Copé will lead the party. By the way, Jean-François Copé has recently been elected the most disliked politician in France.

My question to you was: what is the name of the other candidate for the leadership of the UMP party, and what was his position in Nicolas Sarkozy’s government?

The answer is: François Fillion. He was France’s prime minister from 17 May 2007 to 16 May 2012.

The winners this week are: Thierry Munganyishyaka, from Byumba town in Rwanda; Miss Usha Hazarika from Assam, India; Zia Munawar from Karachi, Pakistan; Mr Hasan Saeed from Lahore, Pakistan, and Mr Sunil Dhungana, from Kathmandu, Nepal.

Congratulations, winners!

This week’s question is about Japan. This past Wednesday, on 26 December, Japan’s parliament formally elected a new prime minister. My question to you is: who is he, and what is the name of his party? Send in the name of Japan’s new prime minister, as well as the name of his political party.

Get your answer in by 28 January, and tune in on 2 February to see if you are one of the lucky winners. As always, be sure you send your postal address in with your answer, your RFI Listeners Club membership number if you have one … and be sure and tell me if you are a Mr or a Mrs or a Ms or a Miss – I don’t want to get it wrong!
