Reports from Somalia say two unidentified men dressed in student uniforms on Sunday shot dead veteran journalist Yusuf Ali Omsan who formally served as the director of Radio Mogadishu. At the time of his death he was working as an officer at the Ministry of Information. Another journalist, Mohamed Ali, commonly known as Buniste, was also killed in a firefight on Sunday. Osman and Ali are the seventh and eighth Somali journalists to be murdered this year. Despite signs that the conflict in Somalia is abating, analysts do not believe the situation has improved for Somali press. Tom Rhodes is the Committee to Protect Journalists East Africa Consultant.
