What happens when the internet goes down, the phone lines are cut and you can’t send mail? You communicate by… pigeon! At least, that’s what China has decided – last year it announced it’s recruiting and training a messenger pigeon ‘army’ of 10,000. A French MP, Jean-Pierre Decool, has suggested that France also build up its own carrier pigeon capacity. The French do already have military pigeons - the last in Europe.
