Unstoppable Djokovic claims Indian Wells hat-trick

Novak Djokovic once again showed why he is such a dominant force in men’s tennis as he took his fifth Indian Wells tennis crown after routing Milos Raonic on Sunday. The world no 1 needed just 77 minutes to ease past Raonic 6-2, 6-0 to win his third consecutive Indian Wells title.

Djokovic added yet another feather to his cap by extending his unbeaten streak at Indian Wells where he hasn’t lost since 2013. With this win, the Serbian earned his 62nd career title.

The highlight of the match was Djokovic committing just four unforced errors compared to 27 by Raonic. The difference resulted in Djokovic breaking Raonic’s serve five times, while the Canadian failed to break Djokovic’s even once.

Djokovic improved to 21-1 this season with his only loss coming in Dubai.

Djokovic termed his fifth title win a fantastic achievement.

“I'm just glad to be able to raise the level of my game as the tournament progresses and that's something that I have been doing in the last two years particularly on the big events,” he said.

Azarenka stuns Williams

In the women’s final, Victoria Azarenka upset world no 1 Serena Williams 6-4, 6-4 to capture her second title.

Williams was undone by 33 unforced errors and five double faults as well as five aces by Azarenka in the 88 minute contest.

The former world no 1 Azarenka won her 19th career singles title.

Meanwhile, Williams lambasted tournament director Raymond Moore for his remarks that women's tennis was riding on the coattails of the men's game.

“If I was a lady player, I'd go down every night on my knees and thank God that Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal were born because they have carried this sport,” Moore had said.

Williams launched scathing criticism of Moore by saying that no woman should be down on their knees to thank anybody.

“If I could tell you every day how many people say they don't watch tennis unless they're watching myself or my sister, I couldn't even bring up that number,” Williams said.
