In his book "Blood and Bronze: the British Empire and the Sack of Benin", historian Paddy Docherty uses the British archives to re-construct the 1897 sacking of the Kingdom of #Benin in what is now #Nigeria. He discovers more about the brutality meted out by the British by then-consul George Annesley, including complicity in raping Ekang, a Nigerian Nigerian woman.
