As French lawmakers become younger and more female, the question of what happens when an MP becomes a parent is increasingly relevant. MP Mathilde Hignet, who is pregnant with her first child, has introduced a constitutional amendment that would allow lawmakers to be replaced by their deputies when they are on maternity leave.
