How human zoos spread racism

Long before TVs, DVDs and Playstations brought entertainment into our living rooms, people flocked in their millions to colonial fairs to marvel over what they saw at the time as exotic peoples - such as pygmies, Zulus, Eskimos and Aborigines. The exhibition Human zoos – inventing the savage at Paris’s Quai Branly museum traces the development of these human zoos and their role in building racism.
